This is the first school year the New National Arts Standards have been rolled out and there seems to be some inequity from art classroom to art classroom in the state. The new standards are voluntary, and Oregon currently does not have any state art standards of its own, so many art teachers are probably going to stick with what's comfortable (at least for a little while): the 1994 national standards. This video wonderfully details the similarities and differences between the old & revamped standards, and how the new ones better help students prepare for the 21st century. I am a big fan of the new standards & I'm excited to see more relevant expectations being set for our students :]
