2nd grade learned about space & perspective before creating their winter landscapes. I really love this lesson because it uses a variety of materials & touches on A LOT of important art concepts. We discussed how to use foreground, middleground, and background within a composition, and how things look smaller as they get farther away. My artists used chalk & oil pastels to draw at least one object in the foreground, middleground, and background, making sure to maintain realistic perspectives. They finished their artwork by dipping pine tree branches into white paint & lightly stamping it on their paper to create snowfall. We even referenced our previous printmaking projects during this step! While the paint was wet, I sprinkled glitter on top to make the snow look like it was glistening :] The kiddos loved this one! These beautiful landscapes can be seen in the hallway near the 2nd grade classrooms.
